Microsoft Windows Excel Database Driver Buffer Overflow Remote Code Execution Vulnerability
Vulnerability Details
This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable installations of Microsoft Windows. User interaction is required to exploit this vulnerability in that the target must visit a malicious page or open a malicious file.
The specific flaw exists within the msexcl40.dll Excel database driver module, which ships with Microsoft Windows. Crafted data in an Excel database file can trigger an overflow of a fixed-length buffer. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of the current process.
