(Pwn2Own) QNAP TS-464 Samba Command Argument Injection Vulnerability

Vulnerability Details

This vulnerability allows network-adjacent attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of QNAP TS-464 devices. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability.

The specific flaw exists within the handling of the provided username during authentication. The issue results from the lack of proper validation of a user-supplied string before using it to construct command line arguments. An attacker can leverage this in conjunction with other vulnerabilities to execute arbitrary code in the context of admin.
