Advantech iView NetworkServlet backupDatabase backup_filename Command Injection Remote Code Execution Vulnerability

June 30th, 2022

Vulnerability Details

This vulnerability allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on affected installations of Advantech iView. Authentication is not required to exploit this vulnerability.

The specific flaw exists within the NetworkServlet endpoint, which listens on TCP port 8080 by default. When parsing the backup_filename element of the backupDatabase action, the process does not properly validate a user-supplied string before using it to execute a system call. An attacker can leverage this vulnerability to execute code in the context of SYSTEM.
